When performing a painting project, most homeowners forget how important it is an appropriate preparation step in the painting course. A new coat of paint is only as constant as the foundation, so if the old paint is peeling, detaching, or cracking, then you will need to remove the paint before any new coat can be applied.

The best techniques for detaching paint depend on the external material and the sort of paint used. Performing this job by yourself isn’t the best approach for quality results, and even if you are familiar with some methods, you probably don’t have the right equipment and can cause severe damage to your walls.

When it comes to exteriors, power washing is a brilliant way of removing paint. A power washer sprays water at high pressure and is a tremendous method of removing paint from wood, masonry and concrete exteriors. Pressure washers are expensive to rent and if you aren’t proficient using these tools then you could be wasting your money instead of investing and still not getting the same level of results.

Even though pressure washing is one of the best techniques for exteriors, there are some situations where even a pressure washer will not be able to solve the problem. Perhaps you have a patio that you'd like to restore to natural wood that you'd rather stain than have painted. In that case, you will need a painting stripper to get the job done.
